x' = x + a ; y' = y + b is an installation created within the ZQM art space in Berlin. It's a translation whose starting point is a small room, used for stock, adjoining the exposition room. After having emptied the room and removed the door, I precisely reproduced the wooden patterns of the small room's floor on to the floor of the other room. I then scratched the grey paint off, in order to expose the floor's original form, and accurately reproduced each stain, mark or other imperfections. The visitor is free to evolve from one space to the other, finding him or herself on an absolutely identical surface.
